Rode out at Southwell today , tomorrow in at Howards and then off to Fakenham with a good chance on one of Noel Wilsons in the last. Hexham Weds, then big weekend - jumps season really starting to crackle.
Here are my ten to follow for the year -
Cue Card - what a great engine this horse has - looked immense on Friday at Cheltenham
Imperial Commander - sets the gold cup standard, think that Kauto and Denman might still have a say but think Imperial has a great chance of winning again
Big Bucks - just simply top class
and for those who follow 415 -
Solwhit - like him a lot as he battles and stays, will pick up lots of prize money in Ireland
Hurricane Fly - injured most of the season last year, has a good turn of foot
Golden Silver - fantastic in Ireland huge chance of winning a big race
and four from my trainers / rides -
Raysrock - like him a lot , real trier and should run well throughout the winter when fully tuned up
Dancedintothelight - very unlucky at Wetherby a horse that is well regarded if he improves his jumping
The Knoxs - like him a lot unlucky novicey fall last week but rides as class act
and the best for last Rocking Blues - as nice a horse as I have sat on for bumpers hopefully will be top class for the Dobbins
A winner this week would be nice with a busy weekend hoepfully yielding plenty of chances.

Jump Season starts to kick in !
Well with Wetherby upon us it feels like the jump season has started - by my early starts it def has ! Happy to ride my 200th winner since I last blogged, its funny I thought I had a few more !!!
With Rose and Howard starting to have more runners I am sitting on some lovely horses, Fortysecond Street and Royal Rosa ran well last week and I cant wait to ride Frankie Figg at Wetherby on Friday.
I saw a fantastic horse run last week at Aintree CUE CARD, looks a superb prospect and will surely take top order a must for you ten to follow fans.
Lets hope we get a winner at Wetherby or Carlisle over the next few days

Been a while !
Happy New jumps season everybody, thought I would drop you a line to start the ball rolling again with the Blog - I hope Twitter has kept you busy as I have nearly 400 followers ! @wilsonrenwick !
Glad I rode a winner on Saturday on SIERRA VICTOR, not the best race but he did it well and deserved the victory. I am enjoying the start of the season getting to sit on some lovely horses at Rose Dobbins, Peter Monteiths and Howard Johnson's and I am hoping I can ride plenty of winners in the next couple of months.

Season Ends ...........
Well I will be glad to see back of 09/10 season. 2 broken collar bones, broken nose and a disslocated thumb. Terrible weather and nowhere near enough wins- says it all that I finished on 13 winners - a season of Frankie Figgs - nearly!
I thought I would give you a few blow by blow moments though with questions compiled by my business manager !
Best Ride / Enjoyed the Most:
Frankie Figg
Best Horse:
Quewetwo
Horse most looking forward to riding in 2011
Colour Clash over fences
Favourite race track:
Ascot
Funniest moment:
One of the Valets - who shall remain nameless who has the habit of saying inappropriate things - one of which was the funniest moment !
Least fav moment:
Falling on Frankie Figg when he had been briliant
Favourite pundit/journalist:
Mick Fitzgerald
Ambitions for next year 2010/2011:
Not to have as many injuries, and make the most of new opportunities
Onwards to Perth and hopefully some chances

Hexham over the hills !
Off for a busy day at Hexham today with plenty of rides for the Gee Aker Malayo Handicap Chase day - sponsored in the main by some lovely owners Suzanne Ramsay and Nigel Williams after one of their ex race horses - I hope the sun stays out for their race day and invited party.
5 rides today starting off with the old warrior Prince of Slane - at his best he would pick these up and carry them - lets hope he does ! I have ridden the fav before on recent form he would win but he often doesnt run two races alike so hopefully we have a small each way chance.
Cash on Friday and Cast Iron Casey will run well - I was really impressed with Cash on Friday first time and as long as he doesnt bounce he should go well. Cast Iron is a really good horse and the step up in trip should help him in the feature race.
Of the other two both have place claims with the bumper horse being a lovely long term prospect for the MS Borders race club who have had many a nice horse in the past.On his bumper form County Colours would win so he must have a huge chance in the 3.30 - a race Howard Johnson won also last year.

Three on Friday
Three at Ayr on Friday , with Raysrock being the best chance for the in form Peter Monteith - not sure yet for Saturday but with no ride in the Scottish Grand National I shall be watching from the side sadly. I had a quick look at the fimal decs and even with top weight Killyglen would have to be the class horse and should run well - of the lower weights would think that Dom Dorgeval should run well as long as the ground isnt too quick and his race last week hasnt taken too much out of him - his trainer Nick Williams has a huge knack of getting horses to run well.
Cant wait for Perth next week , love the track and the welcome we get there and I hope that I can get a couple of good ones for Peter up there. Then after that we start again, the new season will hopefully bring some better luck and a sustained set of rides!

Broken nose and another national beckons
Two days at Ayr and three days at Perth - the end of the jumps season is near - hoping to pop in a winner somewhere along the line! The ground will be quick at Ayr and it should be an interesting race without Denman, a very tight handicap to say the least!

Nearly............
What a great feeling today from Frankie Figg, jumped like a buck and the only one he missed out he clattered- I only hope I get to ride him again as he is up there with the biggest thrill ride you can have. I think we had a bit left in the locker and with the distance back to the second we would of gone really close. Onwards to tomorrow and thanks everyone for the kind words after Frankie !

Friday and Saturday
All go , off to Aintree again for Ladies day and two rides over the national fences !
Like the chances of them both to run well, Frankie Figg jumps well today and must have each way squeak and Royal Rosa gets in to the National - Think he can hold his own as he likes the course and looks to be in fine from.
Anyway lets hope that the horses and jocks all come home safe and sound

Grand National Week - I hope everything is coming up Rosa !!
That is me back from the wee break, only missed one winner and a few close ones as well ! The National decs are getting closer and I hopefully will get a ride for Howard Johnson, I hope Royal Rosa gets in !
From Todays Sporting Life:
Abbeybraney is guaranteed a run having sneaked in at number 40 following the confirmation stage, but Royal Rosa, who Johnson has described as his main hope, still needs three to come out.
"The one I really want to run is Royal Rosa and he still needs a few to come out," said Johnson.
"We'll have to play it by ear but if it looks as though Royal Rosa is just going to miss the cut by one, I'll have to take Abbeybraney out.
"Abbeybraney pulled his stifle out coming down the hill at Cheltenham last time, but he's fine now.
"Both the horses are really well. I took them down to the sea at Redcar the other day and they loved it.
"If they both get in on Saturday they'll both run but if they don't, the other would probably go for the Scottish National along with Killyglen."
With stable jockey Denis O'Regan booked to ride leading fancy Black Apalachi for Dessie Hughes, Johnson has had to look elsewhere to sort out his riding arrangements.
"Denis rides Black Apalachi on Saturday and couldn't do the weight on either of my two anyway," Johnson continued.
"Wilson Renwick will ride one of them and if both of mine get in then I'll give Ryan Mania his first ride in the National, as he's a good kid."

Cash On Friday - on Friday
Interesting week , the week before I get a few days off for a wee ban ! Two winners both surprising. I was sure the ground was too soft for St Killains Run last week but he won well - admittedly it was a poor race but hopefully he will go well again next time. I ended the week with one ride at Carlisle on the appropraitely named Cash on Friday - I am sure a few of the locals backed it on a coincidence bet judging by the cheers when I was led in , but it was a surprise and a great training feat to get him back first time by Peter Monteith - his horses continue in good form.
This weekend Fit to Drive will have a small squeak at Bangor , I love the horse so hope she can run well at the end of a good season and tomorrow would think that doc Row will perform and should run into the three.

Cheltenham away
Well that is Cheltenham away and I was thrilled to see my good pal Paddy Brennan win the Gold Cup on Imperial Commander, Paddy is one of my best pals in the game and he throughly deserves his success. It was a good spectacle again to watch , one day I would love to ride a winner down there but today will settle for one at either Newcastle or Carlisle tomorrow.
Three rides today at Newcastle, Nelson de Ronceray will appreciate any rain and might run close to a place in the 2 mile hurdle I am not sure that St Killians Run will appreciate the rain but he needs to show more to figure anyway. Sundays sees a trip to Carlisle where any rain will help both Mirage Dor and Sinatas, Mirage Dor will probably be my best chance of a winner this weekend.
One final thought on Cheltenham from me, could they put on a race where only Wilsons could ride in the race - I will let surnames be included !!!

Good fast ground at Ayr and a barmy 12 degrees ! 9 rides across two days and looking forward to hopefully riding a few winners.
Friday - half chances with New Tricks probably best chance if the blinkers works well again - Saturday - like my book of rides some good quality performers with some nice races , nothing that stands out but looking forward to next couple of days as this period has been good to me again.

Kelso - Racing again - hopefully
A very busy day beckons at Kelso tomorrow with 6 rides ! cant believe it really as that is more rides with the weather than the rest of the week !
This is my good period normally for getting winners - the next 10 days so here's hoping!
I like Raysrock best of the 6 tomorrow, with most of the others having half chances. One of my favorite horses Wild Cane Ridge will have it all on at the weights but I hope he can get in the money and with that long run in you just never know ! Of the others it will be the second time I have sat on an Ebor winner in a race over hurdles, now who knows the first ?

I used to be a jockey !!!
I have lost 30 rides in the last 20 days due to the weather , gives stark warning to the lack of opportunities for the northern jockeys in the last month. I hope that the weather peps up for the weekend where I am hoping to have a good book at Kelso. The following week has always been good to me as well so come on Mr Mothernature gives us some warm dryer weather !
I see there are plenty of Cheltenham evenings coming and on a quick look at the races my Cheltenham each way double of the week from the north would be Kalahari King in the Queen Mother and Tidal Bay in the stayers hurdle.

The Ship Sails !!!
What a tremendous day I had today at Kelso, winning the More Battle hurdle on the Howard Johnson trained Quwetoo. I have to say the reception I got when I took him into the parade ring from the borders public was just fantastic - in fact it was a wall of sound that I have never had before. I am proud as a borders boy to win such a prestigious race on home soil and I have to thank the race goers for giving me such a welcome. Now back to the horse, he is a machine and without doubt one of those horses that you want to ride when you start out as a jockey. I am enjoying the success as it is days like this that you want !
From todays At the Races website
Delighted winning rider Wilson Renwick told At The Races: "Howard told me to make it a proper test. We thought Zaynar might get stuck in the ground a bit and I think he has.
"Quwetwo's a lovely, big horse. He's not run for a while and he started to get tired in the final furlong, but he's tough and kept sticking his neck out. I think he'll be a bit better on a sounder surface. He looks like a chaser and feels like one.
"I could hear Barry (Geraghty) slapping away down the back, so he obviously wasn't travelling and I knew my lad would keep going. I got a small breather into him at the third-last, that was always the plan and kick on again at the bend."
Winning owner Graham Wylie added: "We planned to go steady and then pick the pace up and see what happens. He has been ready to go since December and has been entered 10 times but the meetings have been abandoned. We took him out of the Arkle last week and we will wait until next season to send him novice chasing."

and again Interesting day !!
Well there I am waiting for the race and next thing I am on the deck!, that is so unusual and cant remember anything similar in all the time I have been racing. It is such a shame as I fully believe that Dar E Saleem would have run a blinder. Happy enough with two seconds and loved the improvement for blinkers from New Tricks and just beaten in the one / two Howard race later on.
I have been told I sounded Irish on the interview after the knock off, I can assure you I am a fully bred borders lad !!! On to Kelso today and hopefully we can get the go ahead so that I can ride the exciting Quwetwo. If you ever go I believe the charity tea shop is the place to go , especially if the chosen charity is the RNLI ! all you can eat party buffet for £3 ish !

Interesting week !
Well it is cold this am , should find out whether Musselburgh is on in next 30 mins, its cold in the borders I know that!
On the horses front been dashing about a bit and even had a couple of falls so here's hoping that we get racing on today.
Shoreacres was just starting to show his class when he fell at Plumpton, a novicey fall and he was unlucky. At Ayr at the weekend the ground was knowhere near as soft as I thought and was really pleased with the win of Raysrock, even my Mrs thought it was a good ride! I think Peter's are starting to run well and I had a nice second at Newcastle yesterday for him. If Musselburgh is on have mainly half chances as per Ayr - hoping to get one from the four anyway.
Anyway got to dash - need to de ice the car !

I have been on the slopes again
I love skiing - in Scotland cant believe how much fun it is ! Just had a day where I could be anywhere in the world, sunshine, snow and feet up relaxing !
I hope Ayr is on though on Saturday some nice rides with various chances, Mirage Dor has a great chance and for me has huge potential - will go close. I ride various others with half chances and you never know at Ayr, you sometimes end up with a day with a few winners from half chances. Raysrock, Nelson De Ronceray and New Tricks have ability so here's hoping.

Some quality horses seen this week
I couldn't help but be hugely impressed with Kalahari King, he looked like he really needed the run and picked a good field up and carried them - he must have a huge chance in the Queen Mother.I also caught Dunguib and Joncol in Ireland today and both impressed me in other ways, Dunguib has gears - huge gears and Joncol is a really old fashioned style chaser that is a hearty battler.
My trip was good to Doncaster with Lennon running really well for me and on better ground will be a really good fun horse for the rest of the season. The snow is coming so this could be another really quiet week - I might be back on my skis again !!!

Update
I enjoyed winning at Wincanton on Benfleet Boy yesterday, this horse was very unlucky when tanking a long in a void race at Doncaster so really please for connections - its always good to beat the champ on the run in !
I thought that the conditions beat Shoreacres at Exeter as we just tired jumping three out and as such he had quite a hard race, I think the winner is useful so not given up hope!
The weekend looks busy and I am looking forward to riding Lennon again for Howard Johnson, with four rides at Doncaster on Saturday - will be a good day out !. Musselburgh Sunday will be a good days racing, not sure of my chances of winning any races but will be a good days racing with great prize money for all concerned.

My determination to break the seconditis
A long time ago I finished 2nd on Ryalux in a valuable handicap at Aintree on two consecutive meetings at the time it was just another 2nd , but since then I have had many great rides that have finished second or been very unlucky. The two unluckiest for me have been Morgan Be in the Eider and Lennon in a 100k race at Doncaster.
Morgan Be is a lovely horse who needs a trip and soft ground as the comment says - I sat out the back going well and jumped to the front after the third last in my mind going effortlessly
Held up, smooth headway 5 out, led on bit 3 out, 2 lengths up and ridden last, hung left run-in, caught close home (op 11-1)
I couldn't believe that Timmy caught me on the stands side - as Timmy said to me afterwards , - he was beaten but started to chase down the loose horse on his outside - it was they say just not meant to be!.
Lennon at Doncaster was one of the biggest disappointment in my career, I threw the kitchen sink at him after the last and Robert Thornton just got up to beat me - worse was to follow when I got a ban longer than Choc !
Chased leader, led 8th, hard ridden after 3 out, soon hung right, headed post (op 15-2)
anyway as they say I intend to put that right at some point, lets hope he runs well on Saturday when we are reunited !!! - watch as they say this space!

Three to watch from other yards
It is that time of the year again when the Cheltenham festival horses start getting their spins, and I loved seeing Tidal Bay win again on Saturday. Howard Johnson has a lovely team of horses again this year and it is a shame that I don't seem to get many rides from there anymore,I used to love riding for both Howard and Graham. Graham Wylie is an owner that buys some lovely horses from the big flat yards and I thought that Ascendant looked like a horse to follow last week at Mussleburgh, that was a really nice race and he will take some beating in the Triumph Hurdle trial at Mussleburgh this weekend. Anyway back to Tidal Bay he loved the return to hurdles and I think he could run a race in the World Hurdle, I sat on him a couple of times at Howards - he is a real racehorse.
The other horse from the week from another stable also ran at Mussleburgh, Miss Abbey won the bumper and there were a couple of really nice horses out of the first three (the first 8 home are all useful) and that to me says that this was a decent bumper for the track - she could be an Aintree or Ayr type.

One of My greatest thrills
There is no doubt that one of my greatest thrills was finishing second on the Howard Johnson trained Theatre Knight over the national fences- I just couldn't get to the front!!
1545 John Smith's Topham Chase (2m 5f)
1. Dunbrody Millar (Jamie Moore) 25-1
2. Theatre Knight (Wilson Renwick) 66-1
3. Latimer's Place (Leighton Aspell) 25-1
4. Ground Ball (AP McCoy) 12-1
29 ran
Jockey Jamie Moore was left delighted after the smart Dunbrody Millar triumphed in the Topham Chase over the Grand National fences.
The Peter Bowen-trained nine-year-old was prolific early on along with Hakim but seemed to drift out of contention around The Chair.
Irish Raptor and Theatre Knight took up the running but both found the going too tough before the second last.
But Dunbrody Millar put in another strong charge when it mattered to pull well clear of the rest of the field and safely negotiate the final fence and the long run-in to the line.
Theatre Knight ran on well under Wilson Renwick to take second ahead of Latimer's Place while Tony McCoy, who is yet to win a Grand National, was fourth on Ground Ball.

4. Ground Ball (AP McCoy) 12-1

Weekly Diary
Only a quick one this week due to the lack of racing and the snow !!!
Looking forward to riding Shoreacres this week at Exeter (will improve for first experience over fences) and I still believe he is top class.
Last week was a fair enough week with huge encouragement in how Rose's horses ran - hugely impressed with Mirage Dor and looking forward to riding Euro American on soft and Colour Clash, Waist Deep and Zelos Diktatarship all showing promise.
Could have a nice day at Musselburgh on Sunday with a few potential nice rides so fingers crossed with the snow around again I hope we get plenty of racing but it really will be fingers crossed.

Seven winners in four days in March 2006
One of my favorite times is the week before Cheltenham, it has always been a lucky time for me with lots of winners - in fact Great As Gold, Boris the Spider,Almire Du Lia, Kirkside Pleasure, Polyphon, and Micks on the Sunday !
One of my pals reminded me of this when he came aross this piece on the web and it describes the middle part of the run ! lets hope this year does the same!
....................
Fresh from riding a winner on Thursday at Carlisle where he partnered trainer Brian Ellison's chaser, Great As Gold he then travelled north to Ayr on Friday, for day one of the two day meeting where Micky Hammond employed him to navigate Boris The Spider to victory in the Novices' Handicap Hurdle. Going into Saturday's card you can be sure he was full of confidence. For a jockey there is nothing like riding winners to boost your confidence and keep you riding at the top of your game, similarly if you keep taking tumbles doubts can start to creep in.
Wilson's first two winners were for Fife handler Sue Bradburne. Almire Du Lia, Wilson's mount in the stamina sapping 3 mile 5 furlong Handicap Chase was not an obvious winner on the pick of his recent form. However, he clearly relished the testing under foot conditions and plugged on gamely for a 3 ½ length victory over the Irish raider Best China with NRC graduate Paddy Aspell a further 8 lengths back in third.

The following race, a Novices' Handicap Hurdle over an extended 3 miles saw Wilson team up with the Bradburne runner Kirkside Pleasure, a five year old Irish gelding. Having put together a string of consistent efforts without actually getting his head in front Kirkside Pleasure looked to have a squeak.
The Len Lungo trained, Tony Dobbin ridden handicap debutante Reap The Reward was all the rage in the betting market and was sent off the 2/1 favourite. His chances slipped away when weakening from three out before being pulled up before the last. Seizing his chance Wilson called upon for an effort before jumping three out to take up the running with the Lucinda Russell trained Roschal. With a small reserve of gas still in the tank Kirkside Pleasure was driven out to score by two lengths.
Two in the bag, two to go. Wilson's third mount of the afternoon was for Midlothian trainer Peter Monteith in the two mile Ayrshire Post Handicap Chase. His mount the French import Polyphon carried the ever popular green and yellow colours of owners Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Anderson Green.
With the favourite taking a fatal fall three out when in third position it was a steering job for Wilson. Having had his mount up with the pace throughout much of the race he dictated affairs from four out and won by an eased down 13 lengths.
He travels to Market Rasen Racecourse in Lincolnshire today for two rides, both for astute Yorkshire trainer Mick Easterby. On paper you would have to say both will improve for the run and will be seen to better effect in handicap company.

Is it really that long ? - Archive stuff from Marcus Armytage
It seems a long time ago that Marcus wrote this lovely piece in the Daily Telegraph, 12th November 2008 to be exact - and a lot of things have changed since then from Lenny retiring, to another serious injury (I never agreed with the likening to Fraser either1) but I do feel that my luck is changing again for the better and I am lucky to be doing something that I really enjoy. I am riding for some lovely people again including James Moffat, Brendan, Micky Hammond, Peter Monteith and of course Rose Dobbin and the nicer horses are starting to come out

Wilson Renwick, journeyman jump jockey, finally enjoys some decent breaks
When Richard Dunwoody was still riding he nominated a young jump jockey, Wilson Renwick, as a future star. It has been a long time coming but the former Champion's prediction might prove right after all.
Hawick-born Renwick, 28, has ridden six winners in the last week including a treble for Lenny Lungo at Sedgefield on Tuesday. In between northern meetings, he is coming south for Brendan Powell regularly and, at Cheltenham on Saturday, is due to partner Sir Bathwick for the trainer in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.
The son of a joiner and a florist, it was Renwick's grandfather, a trainer of 'flappers' in the borders, who stoked his interest in horses.
Before long he was runner-up in the amateur riders' title and, but for the early part of his professional career stuttering along between broken legs, he might have been a regular top-10 jockey.
He had barely turned professional when a succession of injuries struck. It began when a horse reared over on him breaking his ankle, rupturing his cruciate ligament and crushing an artery.
He returned, at length, to finish second to Marcus Foley in the 2002 Conditional jockeys' title but shortly after losing his claim, a crucial time in a jockey's career, disaster struck again.
He broke his leg, returned for two months and broke it again in the same place making a mess of the pins and plates already in there.
Things looked so bleak he even trained as a bathroom tiler while he was sidelined. Later on he had another long interruption to have the replacement pins removed.
When he returned again most of his contacts had, understandably, replaced him. Last year, however, he was promoted to first jockey to Lungo and just over a month ago was approached by Powell to ride for his Lambourn yard.
Renwick has a dry, slightly dour Scottish sense of humour and has been likened by one friend as Fraser from Dad's Army.
When asked if he could do a 'jolly' interview before his first ride in the Grand National last season he replied: "I don't think I do jolly, by the time I've finished you'll be giving out the number for Samaritans."
Commuting between Hawick and Lambourn he is, he says, at least getting full value from his road tax.

The search for a sponsor goes on .............
It is true I still need a sponsor, with the slower than normal start to the year with the injury and the downturn in the economy my search for a new sponsor goes on. I am always happy to do as much as I can for my sponsors, so if there are any business parties that would like to know more please let me know via my twitter account.

Mirage Dore gets the Dobbins started

Had a lovely ride today on the very classy Mirage Dore at Market Rasen - jumping well and enjoying the ground we fair sprinted from the last - I couldn't be more pleased for team Dobbin and cant wait to ride some lovely horses for them this year.
Rose said the following after the race -
"That is great, I got very excited as they were turning for home as he was just cantering.
"He has been crying out for a trip but we have been struggling to find a novice chase for him."
She went on: "We have 28 horses in at the moment, all jumpers, and it is great that my first winner is for my parents - though dad didn't see the race as the TV went down!"
Picture is Rose and Mirage running at Cheltenham over hurdles.

Thrilled by Wild Cane Ridge
This week has been an interesting week, with a mixture of ground conditions and weather! Thankfully no snow. Mind one of the greatest thrills was the run of Wild Cane Ridge in finishing third at Newcastle - It was only the weight that beat him and signals the well being of Rose Dobbins string.
Benfleet Boy ran another blinder at Taunton this week and has a nice race in him - the winner looks very well handicapped.
I am enjoying my twitter comments and interaction so feel to follow me at http://twitter.com/wilsonrenwick
