A long time ago I finished 2nd on Ryalux in a valuable handicap at Aintree on two consecutive meetings at the time it was just another 2nd , but since then I have had many great rides that have finished second or been very unlucky. The two unluckiest for me have been Morgan Be in the Eider and Lennon in a 100k race at Doncaster.
Morgan Be is a lovely horse who needs a trip and soft ground as the comment says - I sat out the back going well and jumped to the front after the third last in my mind going effortlessly
Held up, smooth headway 5 out, led on bit 3 out, 2 lengths up and ridden last, hung left run-in, caught close home (op 11-1)
I couldn't believe that Timmy caught me on the stands side - as Timmy said to me afterwards , - he was beaten but started to chase down the loose horse on his outside - it was they say just not meant to be!.
Lennon at Doncaster was one of the biggest disappointment in my career, I threw the kitchen sink at him after the last and Robert Thornton just got up to beat me - worse was to follow when I got a ban longer than Choc !
Chased leader, led 8th, hard ridden after 3 out, soon hung right, headed post (op 15-2)
anyway as they say I intend to put that right at some point, lets hope he runs well on Saturday when we are reunited !!! - watch as they say this space!
